Personal, social and emotional development Self regulation. Showing focussed attention and responding appropriately We have been developing our listening skills while focussing on The Gingerbread Man story. We have been able to listen carefully to the story and ask any questions about the other characters. Esme was interested in the fences yesterday. Liam said it was to keep the cows away from the deep water. Pupils have now learnt the story and can use the story language to order and retell. Here are some of the fantastic story tellers.

The children in Bluebells were very excited today to see and explore an instrument that is used in an orchestra. They remembered that an orchestra is a group of people playing instruments, that a conductor leads it and there are strings, wind and percussion instruments. We then looked carefully at a flute and even tried to play a tune! It was very tricky, but Mrs JJ gave us lots of hints and tips. After that we used untuned percussion instruments to copy and play different rhythms.
Recapping on our rules and discussing the rules that we believe really work in our school.
'If people just shout out then we cant hear anything' Clara 'We need to share and show compassion to our friends, if we didn't we would be arguing all the time!' Jude 'Being ready for learning helps us all to listen on the carpet' Teddy. We are focussing on being the best listeners and learners we can be. We have played games to show and practice our good listening skills such as Simon says and noisy neighbour barrier game to guess the instrument used.
The Gingerbread Man is our new class text. To help us use the story language we are learning we have made a Gingerbread man sensory story tray.
We had pictures of our school environment and walked around to locate them. Later we created maps of the areas we had explored.
Bluebells were detectives this afternoon, learning all about what an orchestra is and what is in it! We learnt that an orchestra is a group of people who play instruments together. Normally they have four different families of instruments: string, woodwind, brass, and percussion. Kalina was a super spotter and found a drum and tambourine in the orchestra! We listened to some music and then took it in turns to be the conductor.
