Be Active Week....yahoo!
We clicked, and tapped, jumped and posed and came up with some very impressive moves in our dance session on Monday! Super energetic work from Bluebells!
20.06.22 Whittington Castle trip.
We dressed up as a 'page' or 'squire', a trainee knight. Our tabards had a coat of arms - at Whittington it would have been for the Fitz-Warin Family. We marched around the castle, thinking about what it would have been like between 1200 and 1300. The tower would have been 3 times taller, there would have been 5 towers and the moat would have surrounded the castle and keep.
We took advantage of the glorious weather to sketch the ruined part of the castle. We made our own 'Coat of Arms'. We also went to the back field where pages and squires would have practised their archery skills - and practised our javelin throwing! The thick castle walls were smooth on the outside edge, but the middle part of the wall was made of rounded stones. The coins were silver, we looked at a penny and a groat.
The Moor Hens had baby chicks - that was an added 'cute' bonus!
Back at school we looked at our 'Before' and 'After' castle restorations.
Bluebells class had a very enjoyable trip to Whittington Castle, to find out more about training up to become a Knight, the castle itself, and how the castle operates as a tourist attraction.
