Keeping Healthy 19.10.22

We have been thinking about keeping healthy this week.  We have been looking closely at fruits and vegetables.  We discussed too much sugar is bad for our teeth and too much fatty foods will make our bodies fat and unhealthy.  The big question then was which foods do have sugar and fat in?

We looked at picture cards showing these.  Macy said a little bit of butter is ok but not too much as it will make us fat.  Kalina said water is healthy and Esme had a fizzy pop drink picture.  Jude knew that fizzy pop has lots of sugar and will rot our teeth and make them black.

Felicity said Pizza is yummy but a whole one will make us fat!

Emrys had a picture of the burger.  On the burger there was lettuce and tomatoes which is salad and healthy but we chatted about burgers being fatty so there are a treat food that is not all that healthy.  Tillie suggested it could go in the middle.

Here are some of our other games we have played this week.

Working as a team with friends

In small groups, children were set the challenge of building a tall tower.  We briefly discussed what we thought would be good for team work.  Millie said good listening and Eliza said talking about what each other will do.

The groups set to plan then started the build.  Here are the amazing towers that were built.  We chatted again at the end about what was easy and a lot of children agreed that the hand for holding were very useful while others did the building.  I explained that i heard some lovely chatting and asking each other for help, especially form the Y1 pupils.

TEAM work makes the dream work!

Recognising Emotions
This afternoon we looked at Emoji faces.  We asked each other wht that face must be feeling.  We saw emotions such as angry, sad, confused, happy, delighted and over the moon with laughter! Children chatted to their friends about when they had felt some of these emotions.  Some children said they get angry when their brothers steal their toys!
Happy when they eat ice cream and sad if someone upsets them but hurting them.

We also discussed the Zones of Regulation and placed the Emoji faces onto the Zones.
