We have started our exciting topic 'Journey to the Moon', by reading 'Whatever Next' by Jill Murphy. In the story Baby Bear sees a bright, shiny new Moon and decides to visit it by building himself a rocket. Bluebells have learnt the story so well, that they can now perform it using a story map and some lovely props to guide them through the plot! Here are the Reception pupils acting out the story. Last week the children kept a 'Moon diary' keeping track of the shape of the Moon, leading up to the Full Moon (or Wolf Moon) on the 17th January. In class we've talked lots about what the Moon is like. We've thought about its appearance, shape, size and texture. We made our own amazing Moon.
Over the next few weeks we are going to become an Expert Team of astronauts, astronomers, scientists, pilots, designers and engineers with a commission to help Neil Armstrong on his Apollo 11 mission. We'll find out what astronauts do and more about the man and his crew. Later we get to learn about the British Astronaut Tim Peake. In Art we will learn how to mix primary colours to create oranges, greens and purples and then we'll look at some of Van Gogh's super starry skies and create some of our own.
