Charles Darwin - His voyage on the HMS Beagle

Who was Charles Darwin? Our story began by meeting Charles Darwin and hearing his story. He described how he was born in Shrewsbury and went to Shrewsbury school for boys. However, Charles did not enjoy school and hated learning Latin but loved science. At the age of 13 , he created his own science lab in his garden shed! This is where his love for nature grew.
We asked Charles some questions and made notes about his story.

Mr Taylor came to work with us today, and develop our story of Charles Darwin's voyage -
I wonder what Charles Darwin's study might have looked like.......
"Along the long corridor, there was a room with a large wooden door. It had a desk and a large chair, which creaked when ever Charles sat down. The large window looked out onto the River Severn. The walls were covered with shelves full of books and bottles. There was a fire place on one side of the room. The desk was full of note books and an ink well sat next to some drawings."
Charles received an important letter asking him to join the captain on the HMS Beagle to study undiscovered plants and animals. Would Charles want to go? What would Charles be worried about?

We talked about some of the things that Charles might be worried about. What would happen if the boat was attacked by sea creatures?
There might be a storm! Why don't we draw what this might look like.
Mr Taylor helped us to think about what roles we might have on the ship if we were to join Charles on his voyage on the HMS Beagle.
