Well Done Team Morda

Hopefully you have all received the report on the recent governors’ survey of parents (click here). It was our best ever response to a survey and there is a lot of good news in the data. All the staff are happy that parents have recognised the great work they have been doing over the last year. We also recognise and greatly appreciate the amazing work parents have done in keeping your children learning.

Apart from the wonderful positive data, we were concerned to see a small number of parents were worried about safety in school. We wondered if this might be anxiety about Covid safety that carried on despite all the safety measures we have in place, which would be understandable and shared by staff too: we’ve all been worried.

However, if there is something specific, we would echo our Chair of Governors Harry Pickavance, in the report and ask you to let us know about your concerns as soon as possible so that we can address them.

Parents also thought that more information is needed from school about your children's academic progress; an understandable concern following the Lockdowns which is shared by staff. Hopefully this issue has been addressed by the recent parents meetings on Teams but you have any further concerns, teachers will be very happy to get to the bottom of them with you.

Mr E 😊

Special Treatment

Ian Wright is an inspiration to me and his documentary Ian Wright: Home Truths is really powerful. In it he describes the awful abuse he suffered as a child and his journey to understand what happened. I wanted to recommend it to all staff, parents and governors who feel able to watch it; as it shows how important school can be in child’s life.
The special treatment Ian Wright got from his beloved teacher Mr Pigden was the first kindness from a man he had experienced and it saved him.
The staff at the striker’s old school explain how they work now to support children brilliantly. Ian points out that not all schools provide that kind of help.
Thankfully, no one at Morda is going through the terrible abuse that Ian suffered. But we all face difficulties in our lives and our families at some point. Staff do their best to notice when children are struggling, we all want to help.
This inspiring film will push us to remember to take the time to listen to children and parents and to do our best to make a difference.
Health Warning It is a bit of a tough watch at times and for anyone who has had similar experiences of childhood trauma like Ian’s it might be very difficult.

Mr E :-)
