Attack of the Vikings!

Picture
Our class novel has been Attack of the Vikings by Tony Bradman.
It has been gripping, with plenty of opportunity to discuss our school values of fairness, compassion and courage.
Towards the end of the story, we reflected where and when some of the key characters had shown these qualities.

PSHE- What are my rights and what are my responsibilities?
We discussed our basic needs for food and shelter, our need for family and friendship and the extras, which bring us joy and motivation.

History - Mummification

4/25/2021

Rockies mummified some apple - much preferred to a human body! Three months later, our apple pieces are still intact - dried, but very much preserved. The Ancient Egyptians got the process just right!
We wrote our own instructions for mummification and made little 'flick' books to explain the steps needed.

PSHE in Reading Mastery

We read and enjoyed 'Boot' by Shane Hegarty, our class text during the Spring term 2021. The main character, Boot, encountered many set backs in a quest to find Beth, his owner. His dangerous adventures allowed him to find
*where home is
*what friends look like
*why humans are so leaky and weird.

Our comic strips show different characters from the story facing risky situations. They have to decide whether to take 'the risk', knowing that it could put them in a hazardous place. Their values of friendship and loyalty develop alongside their emotions. Their risk taking pays off, when Boot is reunited with Beth.
By the end of the story Boot is not a 'Robot O Fun', to be owned by Beth anymore, but he has found out who he belongs with - his robot friends, Red, Noke and Poochy.

Action for Children: Summer Holiday Activities 2022
Picture

Action for Children – Shropshire Community Short Breaks provide short break holiday support to children and young people aged 4-18 years who are registered with All In.
Their sessions during the summer school holidays will consist of sporting activities, sensory play, arts & crafts, local walks and play parks and local outings i.e., cinema, Attingham Park, Ironbridge Museums and will use worker’s cars /mini bus.
To access the Action for Children (AFC) Summer 2022 holiday support please complete this online form.   This link closes on Friday 24th June 2022 at 12.00 midday.
Sessions will be planned for 6hrs but please be aware, that if they receive a high demand for places like they did for previous holiday clubs, and have continued limited staffing availability, they may have to reduce the sessions to 3hrs to try to ensure that all families that apply have fair and equal access to the support.
Please be assured that they will do their utmost to provide a 6hr session if possible as they do understand how important this support is to you and your family.
Sessions will be dependent on staff availability and weather and any other unforeseen circumstances.
A charge of £10 for a half-day session 9.30 to 12.30 or 12.30 to 3.30 or a full day 9.30 to 3.30 is £20 for each session per child is payable in advance to the session commencing.
Card payments only can be accepted by calling our office on 01743 644713, no cash or cheques can be taken.
Only one session per child per week can be offered.

The guidance below is subject to change in line with AFC and government guidelines. The health and welfare of the children and young people and AFC staff are our highest priority and there will continue be procedures in place for us to limit the risks as much as possible which are as follows:
Parents/carers will be requested to notify Shropshire Community Short Breaks as soon as possible if their child/ren, test positive for Covid 19 and must not attend any sessions. All AFC staff/agency workers will  wear a facial mask to support C&YP inside buildings.  If there is any risk of spreading the virus via oral secretions or first aid is needed to be applied, then staff will have to wear a full facial plastic visor in addition to the facial mask, gloves and apron. Personal care will be undertaken but staff will be required to wear full PPE. Any young person who requires hoisting for personal care will be taken to a changing place to support where available. (If your child / young person requires specialist nursing care please contact us directly). Children and young people will be allocated a worker(s) who will remain with them during the whole session. Social distancing measures will be put into place where possible. Physical intervention is always a last resort but if your child/ren is known to require physical intervention then a full risk assessment will need to be completed on how we can support your child. Sessions will take place in venues and out in the community
