PSHE LESSON  Caring for the environment 17/5/22

5/25/2022

We talked about what children remember about recycling (which they covered in Year 3).
Children were able to explain  that recycling is really good for the environment however there are some problems with it because energy has to be used to recycle materials and this also has an impact on the environment. - We though about how we could RE-USE and therefore REDUCE the amount of waste we create. The class had lots of ideas- Here are a few we thought of :
Books to charity shops
Clothes to charity shops, given away or sold
Bottles refilled with drinks
Plastic containers reused for sandwiches etc
The back of photocopied paper could be used for drawing on / rough work
Used tea bags could be used for composting
Card board rolls could be used for craft or for planting seeds in

To begin to understand the Human Rights convention . To understand that everyone has human rights. To explain why these rights are important. To know who helps to protect human rights.
We watched a video cartoon about Human Rights Link: ‘Everybody – We are all born free’ from Amnesty International  and talked about which Human Rights we thought were most important and why.

SUMMER MANTLE - ANGLO SAXON DOCUMENTARY

5/6/2022

For the first half term we will be studying the Anglo Saxons  and our Mantle of the Expert (MoE ) Drama promises to be as exciting as ‘A Game of Thrones!’

A team of history researchers are commissioned by the BBC to do the background research for a series of programmes  inspired by Tony Bradman’s book ‘ Anglo Saxon Boy ‘ and to tell the real story of the Anglo Saxons from the 1st invasion of Britain up to 1066.
They learn the villagers were part of a civilisation which was displaced from their homeland, settled in Britain, and created a culture which thrived for over 500 years before being destroyed by defeat at the battle of Hastings.

CLASS READING MASTERY BOOK
Our class book, ‘Anglo Saxon Boy’ by Tony Bradman follows the dramatic story of Magnus Godwinsson , the son of the famous King Harold Godwinsson who was killed at the Battle of Hastings.
