Taking responsibility for my healthThis week we discussed the importance of a healthy lifestyle, including diet, dental hygiene, rest, relaxation and exercise. The children self evaluated what they thought they already did successfully in each of these areas and what they could do to improve in them!
Shamrock's class were very knowledgeable about what a healthy lifestyle looks like and were very honest about what they felt they were already doing well and areas in which they thought they could improve. We thought back to the SMART targets we set last week and set ourselves a small achievable target for each area of our own healthier lifestyle.

What can I be?In this week's lesson we thought about what kind of person we'd like to be when we are older; including what personal qualities we would like to have as well as things that we hope to achieve. We identified some long term goals and thought about what we need to do to work towards them. We broke the skills down into chunks and set ourselves some SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, timely) targets, highlighting what steps we would need to take in order to achieve them.
I was blown away by some of the lovely qualities which members of Shamrock's class would like to have and very impressed at some of the aspirational achievements and targets they set for themselves. The children thought hard about what realistic, small steps they need to take to achieve their goals. Relaxation and MindfulnessIn the first week of this half term, we started as we meant to go on, by exploring the importance of relaxation! We discussed how we could use mindfulness techniques as a strategy for managing our emotions and the children shared how important their weekly meditation sessions were to them.
We had a go at some Yoga and took part in a Guided Meditation session. At the end if the session we discussed how and when the children could realistically fit some time for relaxation into their week (and what that time might look like for them). Dear Shamrocks,
It is amazing to be back at Morda Primary School and to be teaching the super Shamrock's class. I feel very lucky to be teaching some familiar faces again and to meet some lovely new ones too. Thank you to you all for the very warm welcome back. We've started the second half of the Autumn Term with some interesting Geography work on Brazil, exploring the topic of Light and Colour in Science and by writing Newspapers in Literacy (just to name a few of our subjects and topics). If any parents or carers have any queries please just reach out by email or come see me at the end of the school day. Mrs Holmes |
