Learning in our class
In the Roses Class, we love becoming absorbed in stories and books of all genres. We develop our confidence in writing for a wide range of purposes through Mantle of the Expert drama experiences and studying quality texts. We foster a positive passion for maths building on existing knowledge and skills and developing confidence to take on mathematical challenges. We also have lots of fun learning our times tables and playing games on TTRocks.
To enhance the subjects we teach, we provide a variety of engaging learning experiences which include: practical activities, investigations, trips, on-line learning and welcoming expert visitors.
Wider experiences and opportunities
Throughout the time in the Roses, children will frequently take part in events in the wider community such as singing at the local residential care home, taking part in church services, attending events at local schools, theatres, churches and the library. Pupils learn a range of sports and are encouraged to compete in inter and intra-school competitions, where children take pride in representing our school and learn valuable lessons about sportsmanship and being part of a team.
Our values
In the Roses, children develop the courage to take on new challenges and not be afraid to make mistakes sometimes – as this is how learning happens. They develop compassion through helping and supporting each other in class every day. Children learn that we are all different and we all have different strengths. Roses children will realise that fairness is when everyone gets what they need in order to achieve their full potential.
Practical information
PE
PE lessons are Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit in school (shorts, School logo t-shirt, trainers, jogging bottoms) every week. PE kits should be brought in on Mondays and taken home for washing on Fridays.
HOMEWORK
READING : Regular reading at home and discussions about their book is essential to enable your child to improve their reading fluency and comprehension.
We would want your child to be reading at home most evenings. (at least 3x a week) Please ensure you sign your child’s book to show that they have read at home and talked about their book with you.
TT ROCKS
Your child should be regularly practising their timetables at home by doing the TT Rocks games online.
SPELLING Your child will be given spellings to learn every Monday. They will practise the spellings in class each morning and then take them home for a final practise over the weekend ready for a test on the following Monday.
