INTENT At Morda Primary School our vision for Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) is to introduce foreign language and culture to our upper Key Stage 2 children in a fun and interactive way.
Our aim is to ensure that all children make good progress through engagement and inspiration. We believe that the learning of a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for pupils. Pupils enjoy being introduced to a new language and will explore differences and similarities between the foreign language (French, in our case) and English. They also learn about the different culture, food and way of life in Germany.
IMPLEMENTATION
At Morda we use the Kapow Primary French scheme as the basis for our curriculum. French is taught in planned in half termly sequences of learning based on a theme. Children are encouraged to speak in French for as much of the lesson as possible. The spiral curriculum ensures children have lots of practise of previous learning .
IMPACT Children leave Morda with a good introduction to French. The study of Primary Languages prepares pupils to participate in a rapidly changing world in which work and other activities are increasingly carried out in languages other than English.
