This afternoon the children in Roses were reminded that Christians believe humans are separated from God because they all sin. Most Christians say that Jesus came to show people how to live a life of love and obedience – saving or rescuing them by helping them to live God’s way. We recounted the Easter story and discussed the three important days in Holy Week: Palm Sunday (entry to Jerusalem); Good Friday (Jesus’ death); and Easter Sunday (Jesus is raised to life). Then we explored the feelings of the characters in the story, Alan said Mary would have felt so proud when Jesus came into Jerusalem, whereas Orson said on Good Friday she would have been really really sad.

The children in Shamrocks revised their knowledge of the Easter story this afternoon. They watched a short film following the story and discussed their responses for example the key moments, feelings and surprises. We concluded by summing up the meaning of the story, Lyndon suggested that Jesus died to pay for our sins. Lexi said Jesus sacrificed himself for us all. We also linked how Jesus was resurrected and this promises eternal life for whoever follows him.
This afternoon the children in Daffodils investigated church buildings and found out how it helps Christians remember the ways in which Jesus’ life and teaching offers them ‘good news’. We decided that it is a place where Christians find friendship. Dylan said people can meet there and spend time together. A church is peaceful with candles, angels and a place where you can pray. Lottie said that when we pray God offers his forgiveness - these are all good things for people and therefore are 'good news'. A super discussion!
This afternoon we talked about all the special places we have leant about. We decided the earth is a very special place and we need to look after it. The children looked carefully at nature and used the ipad to draw what they saw. They also added names to their pictures.
The children in Shamrocks have been learning about what it is like to be a Muslim in 2023. We have learnt about Islam and how people follow that faith in todays world. After researching what happens in a mosque the children created images of mosques on Tinkercad.
The children in Roses were challenged to research and create videos sharing information about Mother Theresa. In teams they used Google search to find the information and then made an informative video. |
