Making sense of belief:
Learning Objective: Recognise what a ‘Gospel’ is and give an example of the kinds of stories it contains. Give examples of what these texts mean to some Christians today Understand the implications of what the Bible means today. Today, we explored the story of the Nativity and who were the characters involved. We delved into the role of Shepherds and how they were representatives of normal people chosen to be witnesses of the events that unfolded. We tested our knowledge of appropriate biblical language when solving codes!

Today, we Listened attentively, move to and talk about music, expressing feelings and responses and started to identify whether sounds were high or low in pitch. This relates to the ELG: Being imaginative and expressive: We performed songs, rhymes, poems and stories with others, and – when appropriate – tried to move in time with music using a parachute with appropriate actions.

Today, we retold the story of the Nativity from the perspective of the shepherds and how the Angels brought them good news. This term our focus is to... We discussed what it is like to live in a country that is war torn and in need of a Saviour using Gaza as a sadly relevant comparison. I explained the plight of the Israelites and that people over 4000 years ago were looking for a Messiah to save them from a hopeless situation. Responses included a King would need to be able to fulfil peoples' basic human rights and be a restorer of peace and justice. We explored Isaiah's prophecy within this context, and we recorder his prophecy in either Hebrew or on laptops, and how Christians use these words to celebrate the arrival of Christ.
Using drawings of different holy buildings we explored design features and key vocabulary .We talked about Remembrance Sunday and how for people it is important that Churches act as a special place for times of Remembrance and how a church can be decorated for poignant memories, we made our own designs for St Oswald's on Remembrance Sunday. Today, we recapped preparations that are needed for the arrival of a baby and what we may need to get ready. We told the story of an Angel visiting Mary, from the Gospel of Luke, Chapter One. We talked about what an angel is as a messenger from God. We made Angels to reinforce learning.
Recognise that there are special places where people go to worship, and talk about what people do there. Today we discovered what people do in church using BBC teach. We identified different features of a church, and what purpose they served.Making Connections What is a ‘Gospel? What stories does it contain? What texts teach about baptism? Making links between some Bible texts studied and ideas of God in Christianity, learning to express clearly ideas. ShamrocksThis term we are exploring why water is used as a symbol in Christianity: how and when it can be cleansing, refreshing, life-giving, beautiful, dangerous, still, flowing, reflective, thirst-quenching. Making a link with why water is used in Christian baptism, because of its many symbolic meanings. Next week we will Introduce the idea of a ‘Gospel’ as a life-story or a biography of the life and teaching of Jesus. Roses |
