​ Learning Objective: Recognise what a ‘Gospel’ is and give an example of the kinds of stories it contains.

Today, we explored the story of the Nativity and who were the characters involved. We delved into the role of Shepherds and how they were representatives of normal people chosen to be witnesses of the events that unfolded. We tested our knowledge of appropriate biblical language when solving codes!

Today, we Listened attentively, move to and talk about music, expressing  feelings and responses and started to identify whether sounds were high or low in pitch. This relates to the ELG: Being imaginative and expressive: We performed songs, rhymes, poems and stories with others, and – when appropriate – tried to move in time with music using a parachute with appropriate actions.

Today, we retold the story of the Nativity from the perspective of the shepherds and how the Angels brought them good news.

We discussed what it is like to live in a country that is war torn and in need of a Saviour using Gaza as a sadly relevant comparison. I explained the plight of the Israelites and that people over 4000 years ago were looking for a Messiah to save them from a hopeless situation. Responses included a King would need to be able to fulfil peoples' basic human rights and be a restorer of peace and justice. We explored Isaiah's prophecy within this context, and we recorder his prophecy in either Hebrew or on laptops, and how Christians use these words to celebrate the arrival of Christ.

 Today, we recapped preparations that are needed for the arrival of a baby and what we may need to get ready. We told the story of an Angel visiting Mary, from the Gospel of Luke, Chapter One. We talked about what an angel is as a messenger from God. We made Angels to reinforce learning.
