This afternoon we discussed how charities care for others and how people can support them. We could name lots of local charities such as Os Nosh, Hope House, Nightingale House and the food bank. Cara said that Os Nosh helps to feed local people who might be struggling with the cost of living, and Albie told us all about Hope House, how it looks after poorly children and gives them nice experiences. Kai thought about Children in Need, and Alan said that charity looks after children too, and they have a teddy bear as a symbol. We then went into groups to research some charities, looking for what they do and why people might donate to them.

Our team of archaeological experts discover a strange Viking burial under a British hillside. They find the remains of a Viking long-boat and inside it the bodies of a man, two women and a baby alongside many grave goods. Could this be the grave of a great Viking king? The team must investigate this mystery and create a documentary about their findings for the BBC...
We have continued learning how to program using scratch, using all the different elements to develop the movement, sound and effects. Alan has been practising his skills at home and has become a mini - teacher, sharing his knowledge across the class. We have made a simple game, making the sprite move across the stage and avoiding the obstacles.
Today we learnt the compass points and combined them with the weather phrases we have learnt in earlier lessons. We pretended to be weather reporters to practice reading and speaking French. This afternoon we discussed the role of groups in the wider community. Cooper talked about how he has joined the Cubs because he didn't want to sit at home every night watching the TV but wanted adventures and to go camping. Kai talked about Boys and Girls Club, where he learns football skills, meets his friends and gets fit. We now know that a range of different groups exist in our wider community and can explain why someone might set up or join a community group.
