We began this term with the start of a Mantle of the Expert inquiry .We travelled back in time to Roman Britain and met a Roman soldier, ( teacher in role) stationed on Hadrian’s Wall. He was alone guarding a section of the wall some way from his barracks in a hill fort. Researched Hadrian's wall and thought about what it would be like to be on guard duty their . We studied the figure, standing for hours in wet, bleak, cold weather and imagined his thoughts and feelings. Missing his home and his family, remembering his life in Rome and wondering why he was stationed in this desolate place so far from his home in Italy. Mrs Chapman scribed our ideas about what the soldier could have been thinking . See below. In literacy, we went on to read and analyse the poem ' Roman Wall Blues' by W H Auden.
