We hope you have had a wonderful Christmas and ready to start another exciting term in Daffodils. This half term we will be learning about the 1960's. Through our Mantle of the Expert narrative, we will be discovering how The Beatles were asked by the BBC to broadcast their song 'All you need is love', this was to be the first satellite broadcast across the world and a huge historical moment. We will also be exploring 1960's fashion and the influential designer Mary Quant. Art
As part of our 1960s topic, we will be looking at pop art and the work of Andy Warhol and Roy Litchenstien. We will even create our own pop art inspired pieces of work! Science. This half term we will be learning about Uses of Everyday Materials. We will be comparing and grouping materials depending on their physical properties. We will be describing why certain materials are used for certain items and what the effect would be if the material was to be swapped e.g. a wooden, metal or plastic kitchen spoon. PE PE will continue to be on alternate Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please make sure PE kits are brought into school on a Monday and then taken home on a Friday. PE kits should include plain coloured shorts and jogging bottoms, white or navy t-shirt, trainers and a plain sweatshirt. Please make sure these are clearly named as things can get mixed up whilst getting changed! Always check weekly reminder for the correct day. Outdoor learning We will be using the forest school every other Tuesday. We will be going out in all weather, so please make sure kits include plenty of layers (Water proof coats and trousers, jogging bottoms, jumper, gloves and hat. Please no jeans, as these can be uncomfortable if they get wet) Again, make sure kits are clearly labelled. Reading. We will change books once a week and children can take home a book to enjoy. Please make sure book bags are in school every day. It is lovely to read your comments in reading diaries, even if we don’t respond, we always read them! We are looking forward to another busy half term. Our time travel topic is going to be an exciting one, so if you have anything from the 1960’s that we might be interested in, please let us know! Mrs Humphreys, Mrs Kavanagh and Mrs McTweed
