Today we used a computer-based database to examine how data can be recorded and viewed. We learnt that a database consists of ‘records’, and that each record contains ‘fields’. We used J2e to explore a premade database and discussed how much quicker it was to sort the information using a computer.

The children in Shamrocks have created a paper version of a record card database. Using a card template, they created a data set linked to a theme of animals. They completed records for each of the animals in their database and then they physically sorted the cards to answer questions about the data. We found it was rather time consuming the more records we dad to sort!
