I hope you all had a restful Christmas break and managed to spend some quality time with your loved ones. I know Christmas can be a hard time for some, so sending warm wishes for the new year to everyone.
This term we will be studying World War 2 in Shamrocks Class. I know that this can be a sensitive topic, however this is a local study focusing on what life was like on the Home Front in Oswestry, for locals, evacuees and prisoners of war at the local POW camp! We will becoming researchers and archaeologists on our mission to research life in Oswestry during WW2. If anybody has any relatives who have war time memories or artefacts they would be willing to share we would love to hear from them. Our class text this term is 'Goodnight Mister Tom' by Michelle Magorian. If you have a copy of this text at home we would be very grateful if they could bring it into class. Otherwise, if you are able to borrow it (from a friend or the library) or would like to buy a copy to support your child in their novel study we would be equally grateful, the more copies we have in class the better! In Literacy we will be writing diaries, letters and a suspense story linked to Goodnight Mister Tom and our History topic. In Science we are studying Properties and Changes of Materials and our current focus in Maths is on decimals. This half term Year 5s will be going swimming on Thursday afternoons (swimming lessons will be available to the Year 6s in the Summer Term). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch. Best wishes, Mrs Holmes
